California. The most beautiful state. From the coastal redwoods, over the Eastern Sierra, and down to the Mojave National Preserve. It’s home to the most diverse landscapes, the highest and lowest elevations in the lower 48, and the highest concentration of EV chargers in the United States. We live in a unique state where electric vehicle overlanding is not only viable, but the best way to experience nature: in blissful silence.
As for me, I’m just a silly goofy twit.
Why I put this up
People ask about the truck at club events and out on the trail, and I’m always happy to get into it. This is easier than reciting the whole thing from memory in a staging area, and I end up looking things up here myself.
Most of what I’ve bought never made it onto this site. What’s here is what stuck, and getting there took either a lot of research or a lot of wrong turns. I went through six phone chargers before I settled on one, which is a lot of phone chargers.
I’m not going to tell you what to buy, since you know your setup better than I do. What I can give you is what I picked, why, and what I’d change about it.
The Rig

Gear
Overlanding gear is expensive and half of the marketing is BS. From radios to cookware, this is the gear I use, and who it’s good for.
Community
I love the solitude of a solo trip. But some things work best with a group: safely recovering a stuck vehicle, meeting people who are into the same dumb things, and picking up more trash on the trail than any one of us could do alone.
